Wildlife, accurately portrayed in their natural surroundings, is the speciality of artist Jean Gasser.  She gives special attention to the anatomy and habitat of the animals in each of her paintings.  Oil, pastel, and watercolors are her mediums of choice.  Jean has spent countless hours observing, sketching, and photographing animals in their habitat.  This has given her great insight and helps her to convey the animal's characteristics.
Jean is Featured Artist for Art Expressions Multiple Sclerosis Show (Wyoming) Artist of the Year for the Silver Anniversary - Safari Club International Sables Organization.Jean grew up in Mapleton, Utah.  She now lives in Payson with her husband Dick.  Invited to the Days of '47 Western Heritage International Art Show (Utah), seven years running. Jean grew up in Mapleton, Utah.  She now lives in Payson with her husband Dick. Jean has been a professional wildlife artist for 20 years.  She has participated in many show and conservation exhibitions.  She is basically self-taught, but has taken classes from Kent Goodlifffe, John Zahourek, and Robert Bateman.
Jean also owns and runs the family business; Gasser's Mountain Arts, where she paints, designs and assembles shadowbox frames, and does antique photo restoration. Much of the research work for her paintings is from Payson Canyon.  People often recognize the landscape as being from Payson. The landscape in Stand-off at Mud Springs is actually near Blackhawk campground (Payson Canyon).  When the painting was completed, there were very few mature bull elk in Payson Canyon.  Thanks to new regulations, we have some nice mature elk there now.
