Willow Bend

Could this be the reason that

Willow Bend is called Willow Bend?

The road to Willow Bend passed under here.

Willow Bend is on the West side of the Green River at the end of Long Street.

This site is on private property.  The leasers want you to see this site, but request that you shut all gates and respect their property rights..

Willow Bend is at the mouth of Gray Canyon, in a scenic setting.  It has been a farm site for many years.  Crops raised there are alfalfa hay, melons, peaches and corn.

There is an old road that follows the river from Willow Bend to the confluence of the Green and Price rivers.  It can be traveled by ATV's, hiked or on horseback.

Crystal Geyser

Looking at Crystal Geyser from the west side of the Green River, in a boat.

Crystal Geyser is one of several in this area.  It is a cold water geyser, with almost constant eruptions, however the 80 to 100 foot eruption can not be timed and occurs, only about every 14 to 16 hours.

Pressurized carbon-dioxide gas, fuels the eruptions.  The first one recorded was in 1936, when Glenn Ruby was drilling for gas and hit the pressurized pocket, that activates the geyser, at 2000 feet.  The copper colored formation around the geyser is made by years of accumulation of minerals brought up by the eruptions.

For more information on location and how to get there, visit the Green River City Information Center at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River, Utah.  Call: 435-564-3427 or  email verna@jwprhm.com
