Welcome to The Maze
Based on the book Maze, by Christopher Manson
This version of Maze has been produced specifically for the Mosaic User's Guide to demonstrate Mosaic, and the linking and graphics capabilities of the World Wide Web running locally on your computer. Only a quarter of this challenging puzzle book has been reproduced here. Some of the rooms therefore include doorways to other rooms not included in this demo. In order to allow you to navigate continuously through the Maze, some links have been connected to places different than those labelled. Links to a given room may therefore seem to take you to the unexpected place. Fear not! In the full Internet version of Maze, all the rooms will be linked.
Typically, you use the Internet to access the World Wide Web. By following hypertext links within documents, such as Maze, you can travel to and from any Web documents in the world. Due to the technical limitations of using Mosaic locally (as you are doing now), this demo requires you to click on the links (underlined text) below each image to move from room to room. If you access the full version of Maze from a direct connection on the Internet, you can simply click on the doors displayed on your screen to immediately be transported to the corresponding room.
Good luck!
Can You Solve the World's Most Challenging Puzzle?
I invite you to enter my Maze. I say it is mine, because despite who else I might be, I am the architect as well as your guide. Your first goal is to find the shortest route through the Maze - a simple task, I assure you, if you know what to look for. I have planted clues throughout for your interpretation - or misinterpretation. Indeed, you will be fascinated by the Maze's ambiguity, stimulated by its mystery, stymied by its riddle. But fear not! I will be with you all the way. Fear not, that is, if you truly believe that my clues or I can be trusted.
