2024-04-22-Trouble-with-CO-detector-on-GEN4K.txt 2024-04-22 Hi, Ora Reeder A friend came by and needed a little help, thus the delay. Needless to say my e-mail was too big so I will load it to my web site: http://162.250.19.7/ and the files will be under "ac0xl/" "BuffaloTools.com/" and "2024-04-22-Frank-Anderson-ac0xl.ham-at-gmail.com/" which will contain the files: "2024-04-22-Trouble-with-CO-detector-on-GEN4K.txt", "Frank-Anderson.pdf", "SANY1205.JPG", "SANY1206.JPG", "SANY1207.JPG", "SANY1208.JPG", "SANY1209.JPG", "SANY1210.JPG", "SANY1211.JPG", "SANY1212.JPG", "SANY1213.JPG", "SANY1214.JPG", so one can keep them all separate, and add them to my account. My web site is secure because I do not use a "domain name" which has to go through the "domain name server" and that is where the security problem exists! The problem is when I try to start the generator when the temperature has dropped in the middle of the night and the CO monitor flashes yellow then a few seconds later will flash yellow several times and kill the engine. I have pressed the reset button (little hole) and that stops the flashing and then try again. This morning it took me 5 minutes to finally get the generator to keep running. This has happened several times and I thought you might have a reason why the monitor is cutting out when restarting after a couple hours of not running. The engine usually starts on the second or third pull. I was thinking that maybe the sensor is using a Wheatstone bridge but there are no electrical schematics on this generator or how the CO monitor is connected into the wiring and is supposed to sense CO. Sometimes it seems to want to run without tripping the CO monitor when the fuel mixture (choke) is on the rich side (running slow due to excess fuel) for a couple of seconds then leaning it out a little until it runs at normal speed. The only modification I had to make when I installed the LPG/gasoline carburetor was to cut 1/4 inch off the hose for vapor from the gas tank into the air filter so it fit better against the diaphragm on the LPG carburetor. The idle jet was set with the engine at temperature and reducing the speed by pulling the governor linkage so the engine was running at idle. My fuel consumption has been running about one pound of propane per hour. This is what the other Sandstone 4000DF generators have been running. All of the other Sportsman generators have been going through oil like crazy! The problem seems to be that it is throwing oil into the air cleaner and just makes a big mess. I was very pleased when this is the first generator that does not use oil and runs like a normal engine! The box is the only place that shows this generator was mane in Vietnam and not China! Finally a descent engine! When I first checked the valve clearances they were just about non-existent which is to be expected after a few minutes of run in time. I reset the clearances to: Intake: 0.010 inches, and Exhaust: 0.012 inches, and the spark plug to 0.025 inches for propane. I noticed that the piston on this engine is sloped and not just flat like all of the Chinese engines! It looks like it is a lot better engine! All three of the other Sandstone 4000DF generators have failed! P4 had the head of the exhaust valve come off. It finally locked up when I pulled the cord and then the head of the exhaust valve smashed the curved spark plug contact and left a small circular dent in it and broke the insulator. P8 quit having no compression and when I looked in the spark plug hole I saw that the top edge of the flat piston head was melted next to the cylinder bore! The third one P11 was starting to increase in frequencies to adjust the exhaust valve from 37 hours to less between adjustments so the head of the exhaust valve is starting to stretch out to the point it would come apart like P4. Frank-Anderson.pdf is my old resume that might help being on file. On the Section II Abilities (CAPS) in the Stanine Scores: 5 would be normal; two lower (3) would be moron; and two higher (7) would be genius! For Mechanical Reasoning I had a 9 which would be super-super-genius and a 3 moron for Manual Speed and Dexterity! They said if you are high in one area you will probably be low in another area. Everybody knew I was a cluts! My father, Frank Chester Anderson 1902 - 1976, went to Sweeney's Automotive School; Kansas City, MO. on Model T Fords and similar cars, and taught me mechanics. In those days if something broke one had to fix it since parts were hard to come by. I also included my calendar pages for March 2024 and April 2024 so one can see my fuel consumptions and when I worked on the generators. The "+" and "-" stand for 5 minutes. Since I have had problems with all of your dual fueled generators and I can get dual fuel carburetors for $20, I decided to try just the gasoline generators and see if they are better built, which seems to be the case with the GEN4K generator. Since I have been living out in my 5 acre field for over 6 years and my only utility is a wireless internet connection I have to run propane generators to recharge my batteries and run my inverter for telephone (MagicJacks) 435-210-0710 & 970-424-1451 and my World Wide Web site: http://162.250.19.7/ which has been running for over 3 years and is bullet proof! The directions to build a site are in the file: "freedom.zip" and use a "copy, paste, enter" method so even a third or fourth grader should be able to build their own bullet proof web site! This is running on a Raspberry Pi 400 (RaspberryPi.org & .com) and the kit sells for $100 USD. It uses between 7 to 10 watts and my site has over 56 gigabytes active online! Please feel free to share my web site with anyone! It will open with a green screen and a directory listing. The site is secure since I do not use a domain name but just my IP Address. The site is read only so nobody can write to it, and is running a modified version of "thttpd" from ACME.com which is an industrial http web server and used to run K-Mart's "Bluelight.com" and many other large web sites. It used to be the number 7 most popular http web server! Thanks for all of your help!
